Every few days or so my internet crashes and I get a message box saying
Internet explorer has encountered a problem and has to close.
I have to reboot every time.

I have a pop up blocker although its not stopping the one on here. I am not so sure it crashes like that because of a virus ect as I would always run a scan when it happened the first few times and got nothing.

Internet Explorer is not rife with any spyware. There is spyware on the internet which people with unprotected PCs may get hit with. It does not matter which browser you use. Get a decent anti-virus and firewall program. Run AdAware monthly and you'll be fine.
I also use SpyWareBlaster which stops 99% of SpyWare/AdWare.
Oddly enough SpyWareBlaster offers protection for Mozilla too ... strange that isn't it.
<rant on> I do wish none techinical people would keep their opinions to themselves. They are responsible for most users having problems. Although they honestly believe they were trying to help someone. <rant off>
Main rule is only go to sites you trust.

Every few days or so my internet crashes and I get a message box saying Internet explorer has encountered a problem and has to close. I have to reboot every time. What causes that.? Several things can cause a browser to crash. Normally it's an add-on that you have installed. The way to check is switch off all "third-party browser extensions" ... as the Microsoft Site will tell you if you click where the popup box suggested.
Close all Internet Explorer Windows Start / Settings / Control Panel / Internet Options On the Advanced Tab untick "Enable third-party browser extensions". Select OK
Now try it like that for a while and see if you have any further problems.
I have found the Yahoo and MSN Toolbars cause crashes. The google toolbar is the only toolbar I use now. The Yahoo and Windows Live ones are installed but switched off.

Thanks Duke.I will try that although I have not had the problem for a few days now.
I found that yahoo does seem to cause a few problems so I dont use it now and I dont use msn toolbar at all.

Internet explorer has encountered a problem and has to close..
See what version of Java you have. Although I wouldn't know what that would have to do with the forums ...
Have you cleared your Java cache?
If it says "Internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" - doesn't it offer to send a report? If it does, let it do it and watch for a link (which most of the time contains the solution to your problem).
Got this from another Forum cam,,,,,see if thats what it is.
