Is it the worlds greatest horror story, apparently true. Or is it the worlds biggest hoax? From the Defeo falmiy, who were supposedly murdered by the son and brother. To the Lutz family who apparently lived in the horror house until it drove them out. The case of the Defeo's murders is still pretty much unsolved. And the all the stories and the case surrounding the Lutz family, well, it would be the most fantastic horror story ever to hit the planet, if it was true. But I'm sure they were after fame and fortune. After reading the book, watching the film, watching many documentaries, reading loads of articles and browsing through plenty of webistes. I can now conclude from my research, that: I remain puzzled and open minded about the Defeo murders. I believe the Lutz family to have made much, much more out something little. I believe they were after fame and fortune. However, I do believe that if the paranormal exists, then the house is haunted. (I conclude this after seeing some paranormal investigations and evidence.) Here are two of the websites I looked at: www.amityvillemurders.com/www.amityvillehorrortruth.com/I just found this one: www.geocities.com/sayswamp/amityville.htm

I agree that the lutz were just out to make as much money as they could from this.
A documentary I saw showed that a lot of supposed paranormal events such as the window opening and slamming back down and the 'cat' at the window had natural explanations.
Mabye when they first moved in and the window shot up ect they might have been scared but they soon learned that if they milked it all they could make a lot of money.
The defeo murders...mmmmm...I still think it was the son but maybe the sister was in on it.

I agree with ya cam.
It makes a good story and all the rest of it, but I don't believe the Lutz family one bit tbh.
The Defeo murders....it probably was the brother, I think he admitted it saying he was possesed! But there is alot of wierdness surrounding that too...
Good film though.

I watched a documentary and they had the brother on from prison. He denied the murders but his eyes... Even if he did not do it he is clearly mad.

The thing is, who else could have done it? But I guess if he's a nutter, then he probably did, but we don't really know what made him go nuts. On the film it says the house is haunted by the evil spirits of prisoners that were seriously, badly tortured in life, cos the house had a torture chamber/prison. And they say that its those spirits that made the Defeo brother person shoot his family. And then made the Lutz family go nuts too.

Its built..supposedly on the site of an indian settlement or burial ground or something and its said its their spirits who want the land back or some such guff. The lutz were never 'mad'..well mad that people cast doubt on their stories (which they changed a lot).

I saw an interview with Mr.Lutz, ya know, the main man and half the time he wouldn't comment on questions at all. He didn't like bieng told they were making it all up, and because they were right, he didn't say anything. But he had plenty to say about what happened in the first place, but when people started to question him... that was it. He just shut up completely. Which kinda just proves it was a hoax.

Might have been the same interview I saw.
He was not too sure about some things which is why I think he clammed up.
They might well have had things happen but I do believe they played on it.

I agree. My guess is that there probably was some kind of activity, whether it was paranormal or not, thats a different matter, but like you said, I think they did play on it, rather alot.
Like Jodie the Pig with the red eyes at the window, didn't it turn out to be the cat of next door that was rather fat?
