I wasn't sure where to put this, so I decided to put it in here, as Tarot cards and Readings, can be rather, un-explainable... Has anyone had their own tarot card reading, where they though "wow, how did they know that, its amazing!" or one when you just think "yeah alright then mate..." ? I do tarot cards, I'm not that good yet, so I only do them for friends and family atm. I was just wondering what everyone thought about them?

Like most things of a supposed paranormal nature tarot cards do have a natural explanation.
Each set comes with instructions on how to use them.Anyone can in theory give a reading.

I know anyone can read the instructions and give the basic reading. But not many people can give a unique reading to each unique person. Whether they have a natural or supernatural explanation, its still interesting. I bet I could change your mind about them though.

If I got a reading that gave me specifics then of course I would have to think more carefully about it.

Indeed you would. So what would you think, if, you went to someone who claimed they were a psychic or a medium and you had heard they were very good. So you got a reading from them and they got everything about your personality right, everything about your past right, they told you your future, they got your present situation, life and feelings about things right. And they gave you some specifics, such as names, birthdays and places? Would you be impressed, or if you said it was natural causes what would you say it was down to?

I would ignore everything they said about my personality since most people have similar traits. Same goes for past life...unless they gave me the names of the schools I attended and real specifics I would not be interested.
My future I would ignore as well since I have had that done and none of it came true.
If they gave me names of my family and very real specific details then I would listen but I would have to make very sure that in no way could the person have found out anything about me..not even my name.

You are the biggest sceptic on the bladdy planet! respect. I really admire you for the fact that you really do mean what you say, when you say you believe nothing. Its good in a way, that your like that becuase if and when you find proof of spirits, of an afterlife or whatever, it really will be proof. Thats good. But omg its annoying! Ok, so they told you what your past had been like, got everything bang on, but you'd ignore it, why? Fair enough, about the personality thing, I knew you'd say that. The future thing, fair do's. But the future changes all the time for each person. What if they gave you details about a family members house, your house and names and birthdays of family members, when all they knew was your name?

Is true that if and when I get my proof..note I said my proof which means even if I get railroaded for it I wont care.If I believe that what happens to me is paranormal then thats good enough. Anything I am told would have to be specific. If they knew my name they could find out anything about me so I would never ever give it. If I knew 100% that they knew nothing whatsoever about me and gave me names and events that only I and my dead relative would know I would be impressed

Thats fair enough, I can't argue with that. But I feel there is still a chance for this sceptic to pull through! Indeed. I'm sure it will come to you eventually. P.S They only knew my first name.

There is always a chance. Its good that they only knew your first name but for me they would not even know that.

Not much I imagine but at least if they know nothing the reading is more credible.

I've never had a reading but with face to face I think it's easy for the reader to pick up clues and use them. With a non face to face reading it's more impersonal so how can it be specific? Words and phrases are very general so you can make what is said apply to your life or anyones life. A specific detail only would make me think twice.

That is very true millie.
Any face to face contact will give the reader many clues so its always best to not have that if you can.

Even being non commital is a give away in itself! There are so many clues in body language etc that the untrained eye is not even aware of. Is a distance reading what they call a cold one? Surely some information about the person has to be provided or what is the connection to you?

not really sure of the definition of a cold reading except that its when the psychic uses the method of chat and being able to 'read' people. They also wont give a definate reading but will say they have say a man with them who looks like he could be a grandfather..you nod or your eyes widen and bingo..they know to go down that route.

Don't dis the tarot cards.
Give me 3 letters of the alphabet and I can impress you with my tarot cards, no problemo.
A cold reading, isn't that like an online reading? Or the phone? lol

A cold reading is more to do with a medium rather than tarot cards.
Its when the reading knows nothing about the sitter.
A hot reading is when they have some information prior to the reading.

So a hot reading is, basically, they are cheating. Thats bad.

Post by cam on Feb 7, 2007 6:36:30 GMT -5
I believe so but I also believe a cold reading is cheating from the ones I have seen.
All they do is throw out general stuff and when the sitter nods or gives some other clue via their body language they know they are on the right track.
Look up cold and hot readings on google.

What about if you sat there and sad yes or no, and he didn't even know your name, and you had never seen each other before. I sat there with my arms folded lol. I thought we was crap, but then he amazed me. So I felt bad and took it all back.

Apparantely saying yes or no is a bad thing to do.
It confirms if they are on the right track or not.
I really dont know enough about it.
I know you were very impressed with your reading.
Look up about cold/hot readings and see if any of what is said you recognise from your reading.

I know what you mean and I was sceptical, but there was one word he said, and it just blew me away. Honest to god, I think even you would have been impressed if you were there. I will do, see what it says.

That one word is what all sceptics are looking for.
If a reader told me something that only my dead relatives or friends and I knew then I would be impressed.
There are things my brothers would say that nobody on the planet could guess. If I was told that then I would really have to question my scepticism.

Well, I was not expecting it, so I am guessing it could happen to anyone at anytime if you are there. I Always go expecting not to get a reading at all, but as it happens I get one everytime!
