The only time I have used a Ouija board was last May - if you remember, Derren Brown was doing one of his experiments on Channel 4 and on the advert, he encouraged the nation to take part...so we did. Well, me and my family did. We've had a lot of supernatural/unexplained things happen to our family over the years, and even before I was born, so we thought it could be interesting. And seeing as we didn't have an actual Ouija board, we thought of it more as a seance.
So anyway, my friend came round to join in, and we opened up the dining table, placed a wine glass in the middle and cut out letters of the alphabet on pieces of paper and placed them in a circle.
The programme was getting quite boring, so when the adverts came on, me, my friend and my brother lightly placed out fingers on the wine glass and just asked if there was any spirits with us. At first, as I expected, it didn't move. So we asked again, and strangely it began to vibrate and slowly move towards me. Thinking it was one of the other two I laughed and asked "Okay, who's pushing it?" But the both denied moving the glass at all, and I knew that there was no way it was me!
So, we decided to do an experiment. We asked the spirit what my friend's middle name was. None of us knew what it was, but the glass moved to the letter 'V'. She started laughing and said that it was right. In fact, she had two middle names - her English one is Victoria, and her Indian one was something else beginning with a V.
As we went on, we found out the spirit's name, when he died, how many children he had, what his wife's name was, how old he was when he died, whether or not his children were still alive.
This all went on for about an hour and a half, and it was absolutely fascinating! At times, the glass moved so fast that we couldn't keep up with it, our fingers were slipping off the glass, and a few times, the glass couldn't get over a small bump in the middle of the table, and actually moved around it to get the other side of the table. It was very strange, but surprisingly not scary!
Anyway, in the end we decided to close it down, and we thanked the spirit for talking with us, and my friend said "If you can see a light, walk into it", and the last message we got was 'Thank you'.
The next day, my mum was really worried about what we'd done, whether it was the right thing and everything, so she rang a friend of her's who happens to be a White Witch, just to ask for advice. Well, her friend literally went beserk! She was saying that we've opened a portal in our house that these 'evil' spirits have been waiting for centuries to be opened, and that we need to close them right away. She told us to go to a Catholic church for Holy water to bless each of the rooms in the house to shut down the portal. She said "If the priest asks why you need Holy water, just tell him that you have a sick family member, because soon you might well have!" She also said that she was horrified that someone on the TV would encourage people to take part, because for all we know, he could have been in league with the Devil who had told him to open up as many portals as possible to let the evil spirits through - but, if you ask me, that's a bit far-fetched
Obviously, this freaked my mum out, and I wasn't allowed to tell the kids about what she was told. So straight away we went looking for a Catholic church. We went to about seven, but they were all closed. In the end, I just said "Mum, loads of people have used the Ouija board, but you don't hear of all these orc-like demons coming to get them or anything do you?" She said I was right and we went back home.
That was eight months ago, and everything's cool. Nothing bad has happened, and strange things that have happened, happened before we used the board anyway.
I'm not sure whether I'd use one again though. I keep thinking that perhaps we were lucky that we didn't contact something evil, and wouldn't want to mess around just incase - although I have been tempted to buy a beautiful Ouija Board from Quiggins I wouldn't use it though.
But what made me decide that I don't want to use it again was that my mum told me about an experience my Nan had with one when she was younger. The board told her something evil, and it happened, so.....yeah
Well, that's my first, and possibly last experience of the Ouija Board
